Like many of us, Perry thought he was bullet proof but a stroke changed all that. This story shows that God still heals today …
Thought I was bullet proof
My name is Perry Reid. I'm a Deacon at New Haven Missionary Baptist Church in Ashville, Alabama, USA. I always thought I was 'bullet proof'. I had enjoyed consistent good health and thought I would live to a ripe old age. On January 15th, 2005 I got up in the morning feeling great. I went into the kitchen for a cup of coffee and dropped my cup on the floor. My wife (Loretta) came in to see what happened and she figured something was wrong with me. So she called 911 and I was taken to the hospital.
People were praying for me
The doctors said that I had suffered a massive stroke. They said they could not figure out why I wasn't paralysed on my left side. My wife told them it was because our church prayed on my behalf. After two weeks of tests and blood work, I was told that my left carotid artery in my neck had a 40 percent blockage and the right side had a one hundred percent blockage. The doctors told me there was nothing that could be done.
Following what the bible says
I told Loretta that I had to find a doctor that would do something or I was subject to have another stroke. The first two doctors I went to said there is nothing they could do. I was recommended a doctor by a member at church and the Doctor set me up for an arteriogram and if that right artery showed only 99% then he would operate. The Sunday before I was to go for the test, while at church, I called upon the Elders of the church to pray over me and anoint me with oil.
"Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord" (James 5:14, K.J.V.).
God heals
The next Friday I went to the hospital for test after test. My doctor came in and said, "I have good news! None of your arteries have any blockage." I went the next week to my regular family doctor and he was also excited. He said, "You know you had a stroke don't you?" I said "yes". He then said, "We know you had the blockage, don't we? Something or someone had to clean them out and we know who, don't we? But my question is why did you have the stroke?" I told him it so I could tell others about the power of God and His ability to heal!
