Glenn is a fire-fighter who is sustained in the midst of the flames by his faith. Glenn tells how he made a 'bargain' with God that has been the best decision he has ever made.
I have been a fire-fighter with the N.S.W. fire brigades, for the past 20 years. As a professional Fireman, sometimes I am confronted with life threatening situations. I have been scared a fair bit, and have relied on my faith in Jesus to sustain me in the heat of a fire.
Searching for truth
In my life I was searching for truth. When I was a child I had a somewhat difficult upbringing, with divorce and violence sometimes intruding into my younger days. I had a little bit of religion, but never really attended church per se. I tried drugs, alcohol, sex and all the sorts of things to try and feel better about my life, These worked for a short time, but afternoons left an emptiness that lingered until the next bout of chemicals / experiences.
The emptiness remained
This cycle continued through into my early twenties, I was married at 22 and settled down a bit to lead a more mature life, although the emptiness remained. I used to think that I was a good person and that I didn't do too much that was wrong, and hence God would probably not judge me too harshly should I die.
Stepping across the line
I always knew that there was more to life that just trying to exist and trying to release old pains. I came to a point where I bargained with God (or so I thought) that if I would 'step across the line' and accept Him and become a Christian that he would deal with my problems involving drugs and alcohol.
The best thing I have ever done
I did accept Him and yes He did set me free. Although God taught me that my motivation needed to change and it has quite dramatically. I can honestly say that accepting Jesus was the best thing I have ever done. He has worked on my character and heart over the past 14 years. I have joined a Church and attend regularly, and have a great life, and a wonderful reward in heaven.
He strengthens me
I still face adversities and problems in my life but now I have someone who understands, who has been through pain, rejection, and absolute terror, and has come through this, died for my sins, and was raised into new life! I now don't need any more chemicals / experiences to feel better about myself. I am saved by the grace of Jesus. He is my Lord.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13).
Accept Jesus and He will change your live as He did mine,
