Jesus came to us in our time of need

LIVING A DOUBLE LIFE

Do you feel you are living a double life? Eric was torn between his life of clubs, drugs and parties and what he heard at church. This was until Eric went to a camp and there he realised that Jesus went through so much pain for him.

Church seemed irrelevant

I was born in New Zealand in 1965 where I lived for 13 years. My parents came from Holland originally and due to my father's work we travelled extensively. This took us back to Holland where I finished my schooling. While in Holland I was greatly influenced by the music of the time (R & B Soul Music) and I was involved in DJ work. My parents would faithfully go to church every Sunday, but church seemed irrelevant to me at the time, as I was more interested in the nightlife and the party scene.

A double life - clubs, drugs & church

We moved to Australia but my lifestyle didn't change for years. In 1988, I decided to check out if there was more to life than the life I was leading. I ended up going to a small church in my neighbourhood where I believe God challenged me and I made a commitment to seek Him more. But it wasn't long before I was lured back into my old ways of clubs and drugs. I occasionally went to Church but the double life that I was leading eventually pushed God out of the picture.

Something more important than the funk party

In 1989, my brother and mother told me about a Christian camp that was coming up. I wasn't really all that interested as I had in my possession free passes to a huge funk dance party which I was right into. But there was something inside me that said go to this camp. I went not really knowing why. In one of the seminars at the camp the speaker spoke of love, forgiveness and mercy and how a man called Jesus went through so much suffering and pain for me. I wanted to know more. So on the last night I was challenged to get my life right before God. I knew what I had to do and it was then I gave my life to Jesus and meeting with Him was a turning point in my life. The hold my old ways used to have on me has gone. At the camp I met a girl called Olga and we were married six months later.

God using the talents He had given me

I started to sing in churches and began song writing. Many people would say that I should do something with the gift God had given me. In the beginning of 1999 we ventured into the production of the album, "Face to Face". For the last 12 months we have been on the road song writing and taking the music to the people. Primarily we have spoken and played in churches, schools, festivals, conventions and camps. The Toowoomba Gospel Festival in Queensland was one of the many highlights of the last year and we look forward to all that God will do with His music in the future.

Jesus died for you.
