At High School, Beth attended a camp at which she not only overcame her fear of heights but felt an amazing closeness to God. Being an average teenager, at times she still gets into trouble but God is always with her to help her overcome any difficulties.
Hi, my name is Beth and I am fifteen years old. My testimony is very simple. I have not had any near death experiences, taken drugs or other such disturbing things to entice me into Christianity. In fact I have known about Christianity all my life but when I was younger I did not understand the significance of it. I can even remember a time when I dreaded religion. As I grew older I realised the importance of loving God and therefore living the Christian life.
It was just before I entered year eight in January 1999 that I discovered how much God had done for me and how much He could really do. It was at this time that I was convinced to go on a Christian camp, where I realised how much at home I was and how comfortable I was when I was surrounded by Christians. On this camp, I also conquered my fear of heights, which was another miracle. Before this camp I was unable to climb more than two rungs on a ladder!
Ever since the camp I have felt an amazing closeness to God and He has given me the courage to be myself. Ever since this time I have been happy, thanks to the courage that I receive from loving God. I pray every night and believe that He answers my prayers. As often as I ask for things I receive them and cannot recall a time when my requests have not been granted.
Many young people are scared to be a Christian because they have been led to believe that it means doing things that they don't want to do or won't enjoy. This is not so. The true meaning of a Christian is someone who believes in and loves God, talks to him and obeys His word by being as helpful, understanding and friendly as possible. Take reading the Bible for example. If you love God, you want to read about Him and actually enjoy reading the Bible, as it is full of interesting stories and good advice about life and how to live it properly.
Many think that Christians are 'perfect little goodies-goodies' but this is not true. I am an average teenager and I do not expect special treatment. Sometimes I get in trouble for talking in class, not doing my homework etc. The only difference between someone that does not know God and myself is that I believe in God and therefore will always have someone who loves me and will help me with my problems. I can talk to God about anything! My favourite Bible verse says "Don't worry about tomorrow, it will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today" (Matthew 6:34). This verse applies to my busy life and helps me to keep control of things.
My love for God and praise for Jesus is the most stable and strongest thing in my life. I hope my story inspires other people, troubled or not, to take up Christianity and realise how great life can be.
Just try it and you'll see how great it is!
